A familiar old friend

The past days have been a journey of recognition, revelation, and transformation. It has brought me closer to freedom; a rollercoaster ride, the same I’m on for years.

Yet I was missing the connection, the one that let you truly understand.

I found the key in an essay written by The Rewind. I was struck and deeply touched as I recognized this part of me which I tried to get rid off in a belief it would set me free. Read it here —> Sex makes me hate myself

I spun around, not knowing how to write it down. I had to break boundaries to find the right words since my usual writing style didn’t let space for this deep truth to come to surface.

I found it in the form of poetry. A poem about acceptance and freedom. May it inspire you to come a bit closer to making peace with yourself.

A familiar old friend

I glide through fields of blooming flowers. 

A long overdue journey since countless hours.

The ups and downs, not worth to count them,

fueling my will to climb up the mountain.

So I raise my glass as I arrive at the peak, 

a familiar old friend, a past version of me,

appears and reminds the deal I once made.

A book of beliefs, a collection of trades, 

a conviction to hold, to stay true to myself.

A self, not enough to get out of the shell.

His hand on my shoulder, preventing the fly,

out of this self and straight into life.

How I denied him this version of me.

An eternal fight as an escapee.

Too blind to see it drawn in his face,

a desperate wish to get out of disgrace.

How could I believe being able to fly?

With one foot on the ground and one in the sky!

So next time, when I arrive at the peak,

I’ll spread my arms for this part that is me.

We’ll think once more about the deal we had made,

then closing this book, the collection of trades.

We’ll spread our wings, set ready to fly,

no hands on our shoulder, we’ll pour into life.
